Description:
The study of history is critical to understanding ourselves and our place in the world. Through Atkinson’s History program, you will explore critically and analytically historical events, people and places in order to gain a fuller understanding of, and appreciation for, the role and importance of history and how it informs current events. You can choose from a variety of courses spanning Canadian, African, Latin American, Asian and European history, and explore themes such as the immigrant experience in Canada, the Holocaust and global migration.

Why Choose Our Program?
  • Get involved outside the classroom by joining one of our history clubs or engaging in a variety of extracurricular activities such as film study and critique, or museum visits and conferences.
  • You'll learn from a dynamic group of professors whose research interests are as varied as Halloween, love and death in Renaissance Italy, the world of voyageurs, Canadian marijuana policy and modern Iraq.

  • "Atkinson is a unique place where individual differences and experiences are valued and shared, and where professors and students learn together and from each other. This approach fosters an environment of creativity and innovation, and makes learning relevant and fun!" - Professor Michael Michie
