| Description: |
This professional Certificate was designed for individuals who wish to sharpen or expand their human resources management (HR) skills. In the program you will gain specialized HR knowledge in a variety of related areas including organizational behaviour, training and development, planning, compensation, occupational health and safety, labour relations and recruitment. Through both in-class lectures as well as optional Internet-based learning, you are exposed to the key issues in HR management that will prepare you for a rewarding and challenging career in the field. All nine courses (27 credits) in the Certificate have been approved by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPAO), and count as the academic component of the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.
There are two ways to complete a certificate in Human Resources Management:
1) Part time /evening (HURS): Most courses are offered in the late afternoon (4-7pm) and evening time slots (7-10pm). Some are offered in a distance education format: either on the net or through correspondence.
York Students who wish to pursue the part time HURS certificate concurrently with their degree must fulfill the certificate and degree requirements upon graduation. Students will declare the certificate program on their application to graduate.
2) Full time/day(HRM): This certificate may be taken during the day over two terms. Students who have completed 84 credits at York or hold a university degree, by June 1 of the year in which they hope to enter the program, may apply to enroll in this intensive day time stream.
Applicants must have an overall grade point average of 5.0 with a major grade point average of 5.5. Successful admission will be based on the applicant’s overall grade point average and relevant work experience. Students who are accepted this program will be required to complete the 9 courses (27 credits) over two terms on a predetermined schedule as specified by the School of Administrative Studies. Students who are applying for this full time/day certificate would apply through admissions. For information about admission, please go to the admissions website: www.yorku.ca/admissions.
York Students who have completed at least 84 credits or hold a university degree and are pursuing the full time/day (HRM) certificate concurrently with their degree may submit their application along with the supplemental information of relative work experience to the School of Administrative Studies by May 31. Decisions on acceptance to the program will be made by the designate of the Dean of Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies (normally the coordinator of the Certificate).
